We’ve listened and have updated our Development Application

Woolworths in partnership with the Wayne family, are excited about the opportunity to continue investing in the Blue Mountains by delivering a high-quality exterior restoration of The Oriental Hotel and development of a retail centre. The development will contribute positively to the local area, creating new local jobs, convenient retail options and a high-quality place for the Springwood community to gather.

Following feedback from the Blue Mountains City Council and the community on the previous DA lodged in 2020, we heard that the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub (“The Hub”) is an integral part of the Springwood Community and changes were required to our plans to better support this facility. We also heard that further changes were required to the Oriental Hotel to ensure it’s value was protected and enhanced and more thought was required in relation to pedestrian connectivity.

We’ve revised our plans for a store in Springwood to incorporate the feedback. The proposed store will provide a full line supermarket, comparable to Woolworths Katoomba, with one specialty on Raymond Road.

We received significant support for the proposal and the public benefit it will provide, including how the plans complement the local Springwood retail environment. Many people currently have to travel out of the local government area to shop. Improving the retail offer within Springwood will mean people can shop within the area, benefiting all surrounding businesses.

We’ve now formally lodged our amended proposal for assessment.
